Showcasing a Shipyard for Growth

CATEGORY: Film & Digital

The brief

The Methil shipyard on Scotland’s east coast has led a difficult life through multiple ownership. From its heyday in the early 19th century, it had not seen shipbuilding since 1856, when it finally delivered its first new ship in 2023; a barge for the waste management and recycling business Cory. Engage was commissioned to help showcase the site for future potential customers.

The work

It didn’t take long on site to remind us of our passion for manufacturing, and for the people who make ‘stuff’. From apprentices, to designers, to welders and project managers, at Engage we are always in awe of those who shape the world around us, so we asked our heroes to take on the same role in our film. Their reluctance was soon overcome, and we could not have asked for more tolerant and patient ‘talent’… They followed our cues and flexible storyboard, allowing us to showcase them and their shipyard.

The outcome

Our film, which was loved by the yard and communications team, was sadly spiked by Harland and Wolff falling into Administration before our film could be shown. However, feedback from the client of ‘We LOVE it!’ echoed across the business will have to suffice for now. And despite never having been publicly screened, and ultimately being made at our cost, we love it too.
